Bee - Fuddled Blunder...

I don't normally feed the birds in the summer because I don't want to invite unwanted guests and rodents to my nesting birds territory's .My dad bought me 10 pound of birdseed,so I said "What the heck,I haven't seen much bird activity in my yard lately so why not."I fill up two birds feeders fine, but then.......I open up our biggest feeder, & remember this I haven't filled the feeders since May.I open it up and OUCH!A bee's nest with about 25 yellow jackets were under the lid of the feeder, luckily only one was fast enough to sting me on my hand once.I guess i'm not filling my feeders until the bees move out!

What a Hike!

I went hiking on 6/24/12 to get outdoors with some old friends and hiked more then we planned. There are two lake were we hiked, North Lake & South Lake.We first went up a 1/4 of a mile trail by North Lake, but on the way back we took a wrong turn and ended up walking an extra mile to South Lake.We sat there wondering what turn did we mess up, then we found it.So we hiked another mile extra all the way back to North Lake.On my way Back I heard a Vireo,Flycatcher, and a Cardinal. What a Day!

4 Times the Charm!

Back in April there was 3 nests in my yard, but now I have an update. There is now 4 birds nesting in my yard.Okay, first off the poor Chickadees got kicked out by a House Wren, including the eggs which got smashed. The Starlings first brood was a success with 5 fledglings! The House Wren now has 2 chicks and a handful of eggs. The Robins nest in the backyard birdhouse turns out to be Bluebirds who have 4 chicks now with no unhatched eggs! There is Robins in a tree in my yard with an unknown quantity of eggs/chicks if any.

Sorry for the long drought of no posts.
